PMO to move to Seva Teerth
The upcoming new complex housing the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) will be called Seva Teerth-1, the first of three newly built structures in Executive Enclave-I, located adjacent to Vayu Bhawan.
The official residence and principal workplace of the PM, currently, is 7, Lok Kalyan Marg. Earlier, it was 7, Race Course Road.
The remaining buildings in Executive Enclave-I, Seva Teerth-2 and Sewa Teerth-3, will host the Cabinet Secretariat, the National Security Advisor’s Office and the India House, which will be a venue for high-level talks with visiting dignitaries.
The development came a day after nine States and a Union Territory renamed their Governor and Lieutenant Governor’s residence from Raj Bhawan, Raj Niwas to Lok Bhawan, Lok Niwas, following a directive from Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
In a letter to principal secretaries or secretaries to State Governors and Lieutenant Governors of UTs, the MHA cited the suggestion as the word Raj Bhavan smacked of colonialism. West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam, Uttarakhand, Odisha, Gujarat, Telangana and Tripura have effected the change and renamed ‘Raj Bhavan’ as ‘Lok Bhavan’.
