PM Modi to inaugurate new Metro corridors, launch 3 more in Delhi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate two new corridors of the Delhi Metro and lay the foundation stone for three additional Metro corridors in the national capital on March 8. These new metro corridors will significantly expand the city’s public transport network.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the new Metro projects will improve connectivity across residential and commercial areas while strengthening clean and efficient public transport in the city. She said the expansion will help reduce pressure from private vehicles on roads and contribute to controlling pollution in the Capital.
According to the Chief Minister, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Majlis Park-Maujpur-Babarpur section of the Pink Line and the Deepali Chowk-Majlis Park section of the Magenta Line. With the opening of the Majlis Park-Maujpur-Babarpur corridor, the Pink Line will extend to about 71.56 kilometres, making it the country’s first fully operational Ring Metro corridor.
Officials said the corridor will significantly improve connectivity between various parts of Delhi, particularly areas in North East and North West Delhi. The new link will enable commuters to travel more efficiently between several residential and commercial neighbourhoods without requiring multiple interchanges.
The Deepali Chowk-Majlis Park section is an extension of the Magenta Line. With the commissioning of this corridor, the total length of the Magenta Line will reach about 49 kilometres. The extension is expected to enhance connectivity for several residential colonies and business hubs along the route, providing smoother travel for daily commuters.
The Chief Minister said the Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for three new Metro corridors under Phase V (A) of the network expansion. These include the corridor from Ramakrishna Ashram Marg to Indraprastha, often referred to as the Central Vista corridor, the Aerocity to Indira Gandhi Airport Terminal-1 corridor, and the corridor from Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj.
Once completed, these corridors are expected to strengthen connectivity between Delhi’s administrative centres, residential neighbourhoods, and commercial districts. The Aerocity-Terminal-1 corridor will also provide faster and more direct Metro access to the airport for commuters.
The Chief Minister said the expansion will benefit not only residents of Delhi but also commuters from neighbouring cities in the National Capital Region. Travellers from Faridabad and Ballabhgarh will be able to reach Tughlakabad through the Violet Line and then travel directly towards the airport through the upcoming Golden Line corridor. Similarly, commuters coming from Noida will be able to reach KalindiKunj through the Magenta Line and then travel easily towards South Delhi and the airport through the new route.
The Chief Minister said strengthening public transport remains a priority for the Delhi Government. She highlighted that the Transport Department has been allocated Rs 9,110 crore in the 2025-26 Budget, which is nearly 60 per cent higher than last year’s allocation of Rs 5,702 crore. Out of this, Rs 2,929 crore has been earmarked specifically for accelerating Metro projects.
She added that the Government aims to create a modern, efficient, and environmentally friendly public transport network across the capital. Expanding the Metro system, she said, will ensure that residents have access to reliable transport while reducing traffic congestion and pollution.
The Chief Minister also said the Delhi Government is working in close coordination with the Centre to strengthen the city’s transport infrastructure and develop a world-class Metro network that supports the broader vision of a developed India.
