PM Modi surpasses Nehru to become India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has surpassed the tenure record of India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, becoming the country’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister.
With this milestone, Modi has set a new benchmark in Indian political history, reflecting his sustained electoral success and continued leadership at the national level. Having first assumed office in May 2014 and subsequently securing consecutive mandates, Modi has now served longer as an elected Prime Minister than Nehru, who led the country from 1947 until his death in 1964.
The achievement has drawn congratulatory messages from several world leaders, who praised Modi's leadership and India's growing global influence under his tenure. Foreign leaders highlighted India’s expanding role in international affairs, economic development, and strategic partnerships during his years in office.
The Prime Minister's tenure has been marked by major initiatives in infrastructure development, digital governance, economic reforms, manufacturing, welfare schemes, and foreign policy engagement. His government has also focused on strengthening India's position in global forums and expanding diplomatic ties across regions.
Political observers note that Modi's record reflects not only longevity in office but also his ability to secure repeated electoral mandates, making him the longest-serving Prime Minister elected through successive democratic victories.
Supporters of the Prime Minister have described the milestone as a historic moment in independent India's political journey, while the BJP hailed it as a reflection of public trust in Modi's leadership.
The development comes as India continues to play an increasingly significant role in global geopolitics, economic growth, technology, and international diplomacy.
