PM Modi Performs Maha Pooja At Somnath Temple During Somnath Amrut Mahotsav

Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed ‘Maha Pooja’ and other religious rituals at the Somnath Temple as part of the Somnath Amrut Mahotsav celebrations marking 75 years of the inauguration of the restored shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva.
After holding a roadshow in Somnath, the Prime Minister entered the temple premises and performed ‘Maha Pooja’ and ‘Jalabhishek’, the ritual of pouring holy water over the Shivling, amid chanting of Vedic mantras.
Modi also witnessed the ‘Kumbhabhishek’ ceremony, during which holy water collected from major pilgrimage sites across the country was sprinkled atop the temple’s towering spire using a crane.
The Somnath Amrut Mahotsav is being organised to commemorate 75 years since India’s first President Rajendra Prasad inaugurated the restored Somnath Temple in 1951.
The Prime Minister, accompanied by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, also watched an air show by the Indian Air Force’s Suryakiran Aerobatic Team over the temple premises.
Using indigenous smoke pods, the aerobatic jets released saffron, white and green smoke in the sky, creating the image of the Indian tricolour during the display.
Prime Minister Modi is also scheduled to address a public gathering at Sadbhavana Ground later in the day as part of the celebrations.
