Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday paid tribute to Rabindranath Tagore on the occasion of Pochishe Boishakh, remembering the Nobel laureate as one of India’s greatest literary and cultural icons.
In his message, PM Modi described Tagore as a writer, philosopher, poet, educationist and artist whose works reflected the spirit and depth of India’s civilisation.
The Prime Minister said Rabindranath Tagore’s thoughts and literary contributions continue to inspire generations and guide society through their emphasis on culture, creativity and human values.
Highlighting Tagore’s enduring influence, Modi said the legendary poet enriched Indian society with new ideas, artistic excellence and cultural confidence.
Pochishe Boishakh, celebrated widely in West Bengal and among Bengali communities across the world, marks the birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore according to the Bengali calendar.
Tagore, who became the first Asian Nobel laureate after winning the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913, is remembered globally for his literary masterpieces, philosophical writings and contributions to music and education.
His compositions include India’s national anthem “Jana Gana Mana” and Bangladesh’s national anthem “Amar Sonar Bangla”.
Across West Bengal and several other parts of the country, cultural programmes, literary events and tribute ceremonies were organised to mark the occasion.
