PM Modi meets Russian foreign minister

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday met Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in New Delhi and held extensive discussions on key regional and international developments, including the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, the evolving situation in West Asia, and strengthening bilateral cooperation between India and Russia.
“Foreign Minister Lavrov and the Prime Minister exchanged views on various regional and global issues of mutual interest, including the situation in Ukraine and West Asia,” the PMO said in its statement.
According to an official statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the meeting focused on issues of mutual concern and reviewed progress in India-Russia relations following the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit held in December 2025. Lavrov is visiting India to attend the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.
During the interaction, PM Modi reiterated India’s long-standing position that dialogue and diplomacy remain the best means to resolve international conflicts. India has consistently advocated peaceful negotiations in relation to the Ukraine conflict and has called for de-escalation through diplomatic channels.
Lavrov also briefed PM Modi on the progress achieved in bilateral cooperation since the PM’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin last year.
PM Modi also asked Lavrov to convey his warm greetings to President Putin.
Prime Minister Modi also joined visiting ministers and delegates for the official BRICS family photograph, bringing together representatives of member countries and partner nations participating in the high-level summit.
PM Modi on Thursday also met several foreign ministers attending the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi, including Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, South African Foreign Minister Ronald Lamola, and Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira, on the sidelines of the BRICS Foreign Ministers Meeting.
