PM Modi meets Australia Governor General Sam Mostyn, reviews India-Australia strategic partnership

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Australia’s Governor-General Sam Mostyn in Melbourne and discussed the enduring partnership between India and Australia, focusing on shared democratic values, people-to-people connections and expanding cooperation across multiple sectors.
The meeting took place during PM Modi’s visit to Australia, the second leg of his three-nation tour. The Prime Minister arrived in Melbourne from Indonesia on Wednesday and earlier held talks with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

The Ministry of External Affairs said PM Modi and Governor-General Mostyn exchanged views on strengthening the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and welcomed the growing economic engagement between the two nations.
The two leaders expressed confidence that expanding cooperation in trade, investment, education and innovation would create new opportunities and benefit citizens of both countries.
They also discussed strengthening sporting ties, including closer collaboration ahead of the Commonwealth Games 2030 and the 2032 Summer Olympics.
Earlier, PM Modi met former Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and recalled the progress made in bilateral relations during his tenure from 2018 to 2022.
Modi also met Victoria Governor Margaret Gardner at Government House and discussed education partnerships, research collaborations and student mobility between India and Victoria.
The meetings highlighted the growing depth of India-Australia relations, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to expanding cooperation in key areas, including trade, education, innovation and strategic engagement.
