PM Modi briefed by LuLu’s Yusuffali as Food Supplies to GCC continues from India

India continues to play a crucial role in ensuring stable and uninterrupted food supplies to Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, even amid ongoing global challenges.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was recently briefed by Yusuffali MA, Chairman of LuLu Group, on a series of initiatives aimed at maintaining supply continuity.
The meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s official residence in New Delhi, focused on ensuring the steady availability of essential food items across the Gulf region.
The GCC, home to a large Indian diaspora, has long depended on Indian-origin food products as a staple in daily consumption. Discussions highlighted the need to strengthen supply chains and maintain price stability during a period marked by global uncertainties.
LuLu Group, which operates more than 280 hypermarkets across the GCC, remains a key player in regional food distribution.
Its recent interventions are part of broader efforts by both private retailers and Governments to prevent disruptions in essential supplies, while also maintaining market confidence and avoiding panic buying. During the interaction, Yusuffali outlined the group’s large-scale supply initiatives, which have already facilitated the movement of approximately 15,000 tons of food products — both perishable and non-perishable — from India to GCC markets.
These shipments have been executed through a mix of exclusive chartered flights, cargo vessels, and regular shipping services. According to the company, 34 dedicated chartered flights have been deployed so far, with similar numbers expected in the coming days. These efforts are backed by LuLu’s extensive sourcing and export infrastructure across multiple Indian states, where production and logistics hubs are operating at enhanced capacity to meet rising international demand.
Yusuffali further shared plans to expand these operations in the coming weeks, with additional chartered flights and cargo shipments being scheduled to support sustained demand.
Prime Minister Modi acknowledged the significance of these efforts and assured full support from the Government of India to facilitate the smooth export of food products to GCC nations, reinforcing India’s role as a reliable partner in global food security.
