Petrol and Diesel prices hiked again by over ₹2.5 Per litre, 4th Increase in 10 Days

State-run oil marketing companies have once again increased fuel prices across the country, raising petrol rates by ₹2.61 per litre and diesel by ₹2.71 per litre. This marks the fourth revision in just 10 days, taking the total increase over the past fortnight to around ₹7.35 for petrol and ₹7.53 for diesel.
In Delhi, petrol now costs ₹102.12 per litre, while diesel has climbed to ₹95.20 per litre. With this latest hike, petrol has crossed the ₹100 mark in the national capital for the first time in nearly four years, last seen above this level in May 2022.
The steady increase in fuel prices comes amid continued volatility in global crude oil markets. Brent crude was trading around $103 per barrel recently, with fluctuations driven by geopolitical tensions in West Asia and uncertainty over oil supply routes through the Strait of Hormuz.
Industry officials said oil companies are continuing to adjust retail prices to recover accumulated losses, known as under-recoveries, in addition to current market pressures. These adjustments have led to a rapid series of price hikes in recent weeks.
Experts note that fuel prices have been revised in a staggered manner, similar to previous cycles of international oil shocks, where daily incremental hikes were used to align domestic prices with global benchmarks.
Across other major cities, petrol prices have also risen significantly, with Kolkata, Mumbai, and Chennai all recording increases of over ₹2 per litre. Diesel prices have followed a similar upward trend nationwide.
Analysts warn that further price revisions may continue unless crude oil stabilises below the $100-per-barrel mark, adding pressure on household budgets and transportation costs across India.
