Peru marks 205th Independence Day with it’s exotic food and culture

On June 23, the Embassy of Peru in India successfully hosted the commemorative ceremony marking the 205th Anniversary of the Independence of Peru at the prestigious Hyatt Regency Hotel in New Delhi.
The Guest of Honour at the ceremony was Pabitra Margherita, Minister of State for External Affairs of India. His participation was of particular significance in the current context of strengthening relations between Peru and India, as it reflected the high level of attention and appreciation that the Government of India accords to the bonds of friendship and cooperation with Peru.
The event brought together more than 400 distinguished guests, including senior government officials, members of the diplomatic and consular corps, business leaders, representatives of the media, social media influencers, and members of the Peruvian community in India. During the evening, guests enjoyed Peru’s signature cocktail, the Pisco Sour, along with an exquisite buffet featuring representative dishes of Peruvian cuisine in both vegetarian and non-vegetarian varieties, specially prepared by renowned Peruvian Chef Julio Castillo.
The cultural programme, conceived as a tribute to the cultural complementarity between Peru and India, featured performances by Ananga Manjari, a distinguished Peruvian dancer based in India, trained in contemporary ballet and Bharatanatyam. Holder of the prestigious title of Nrita Mayuri, she has performed extensively across India and internationally. She was joined by Ricardo Delgado, who captivated the audience with live performances of traditional Peruvian instrumental music using the zampoña (Andean pan flute) and flute. Together, the artists presented an innovative performance that seamlessly blended Peruvian and Indian artistic traditions, highlighting the rich cultural affinities shared by the two nations.
The ceremony also marked the inauguration of the fifth edition of the “Taste of Peru in Delhi” Gastronomic Festival, which is being held from June 23 to 28 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. The growing interest in and recognition of Peruvian cuisine in India reflects the sustained efforts of the Embassy of Peru to position its gastronomy as an instrument of cultural diplomacy and as a bridge for further strengthening the enduring friendship and cooperation between Peru and India. Ambassador of Peru to India, HE Javier Paulinich, proved to be a gracious and exceptional host, warmly welcoming a large gathering of distinguished Indian and Peruvian dignitaries, diplomats, business leaders, and other eminent guests. Through his sustained diplomatic efforts, he has played a pivotal role in making Peru a familiar and respected name across a vast and diverse country like India.
