Pankaj Tripathi’s brother attacked in Bihar; accused held

Vijaynath Tiwari, elder brother of actor Pankaj Tripathi, was seriously injured on Sunday in an alleged assault over a land dispute in Gopalganj district, police said on Monday. According to police, the accused has been arrested, and the weapon allegedly used in the attack has been recovered.
According to Gopalganj Superintendent of Police Vinay Tiwari, the incident occurred on June 21 at Belsand Tiwari Tola village under the jurisdiction of Madhopur police station. Preliminary investigation suggests the attack stemmed from a longstanding dispute over a piece of ancestral land. “Vijaynath Tiwari sustained injuries and was rushed to a local hospital. His condition is stable now,” SP Tiwari said. “We have arrested the accused within 24 hours”.
Police sources said an argument broke out between Vijaynath Tiwari, 62, and a resident over demarcation and possession of farmland. The altercation escalated, and the accused allegedly attacked him with a sharp-edged weapon. Family members intervened and took the injured man to Sadar Hospital, Gopalganj, where he received stitches and is under observation. Doctors treating him said he is out of danger. The weapon allegedly used in the assault and the blood-stained clothes have been recovered from his possession.
An FIR has been registered at Madhopur police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for attempt to commit culpable homicide and voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons. The accused, a resident of the same village, was produced before a local court on Monday and remanded to judicial custody. Family members said they are more focused on Vijaynath Tiwari’s recovery.
SP Tiwari added that land disputes remain a frequent trigger for violence in the region. “We have directed local police stations to maintain a list of chronic disputes and intervene early. A revenue team will also measure the disputed plot to prevent further flare-ups,” he said.
The district administration has deployed additional personnel in the village to maintain law and order. Police said that further investigation is underway and that statements from eyewitnesses are being recorded.
