Pahalgam attack: NIA files chargesheet
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday filed the chargesheet in the Pahalgam terror attack. In its 1,597-page-long chargesheet the agency names the seven accused, including Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and The Resistance Front (TRF). The agency has charged LeT and TRF for planning, facilitating, and executing the attack. Pakistani handler terrorist Sajid Jatt is also named as an accused in the chargesheet, filed before the NIA Special Court, Jammu.
The chargesheet was filed three days ahead of the 180-day deadline for filing the chargesheet under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). The attack on April 22 involved targeted killings based on religion by terrorists. It left 25 tourists and one local civilian dead in the picturesque Baisaran valley of Pahalgam.
Two accused persons, Parvaiz Ahmad and Bashir Ahmad Jothar, arrested by the NIA on June 22 for harbouring terrorists, have also been chargesheeted. During interrogation, they disclosed the identities of the terrorists involved in the attack, and confirmed their Pakistani origin and links to LeT.
Names of three Pakistani terrorists killed by Indian security forces during the anti-terror Operation Mahadev at Dachigam, Srinagar, in July 2025, weeks after the deadly terror attack, also figured in the list of seven accused.
