Over 66,000 DU aspirants accept UG seats allotted in first round

More than 66,000 candidates have accepted the undergraduate seats allotted to them by the University of Delhi within a day of the release of the first allocation list under the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS), according to admission data shared by the university on Friday. The university said 66,251 candidates had accepted their allotted seats till Friday.
Of these, applications of 6,826 candidates had reached the "Approved by Principal" stage, while 896 candidates had completed the admission process by paying the requisite fees. The university also said that 5,141 candidates had been allotted their first preference in the initial round of admissions.
Delhi University has made over 21,000 additional seat allocations in the first round of undergraduate admissions this year, with officials saying the move, based on data from previous admission cycles, is aimed at ensuring optimal seat occupancy.
On Thursday, the university announced the first allocation list for admissions to 221 undergraduate programmes across 67 colleges, offering seats to 93,033 candidates against more than 71,000 available seats for the 2026-27 academic session.
The allocations were made from among 2,08,043 candidates who completed Phase 2 of the admission process by submitting their programme and college preferences. Overall, 2,18,284 candidates completed registration on the CSAS portal.
According to the university, 93,033 candidates, including 42,019 male and 51,014 female applicants, received seat allocations in the first round, reflecting an overall allocation rate of 86.1 per cent. A total of 15,942,385 unique programme-college preferences were considered during the allocation exercise. Among special category admissions, 1,243 single girl child candidates and 242 orphan candidates, including 109 male and 133 female applicants, were allotted seats.
Candidates allotted seats in the first round can accept their allocations till 11.59 pm on July 18. Colleges will verify and approve the applications after which candidates will have to complete fee payment.
The university has advised candidates wishing to be considered for a higher preference in subsequent rounds to opt for the "upgrade" option. The second allocation list is scheduled to be released on July 25.
Meanwhile, the Delhi University Sports Council has released the schedule for sports trials under the Sports Supernumerary Quota for undergraduate admissions. The trials will be conducted from July 29 to August 3 across various venues in Delhi for different sports disciplines.
DU forms panel to consider increase in seats for one-year PG programmes
New Delhi: Delhi University has constituted a six-member committee to examine requests for increasing the number of seats in its one-year postgraduate programmes for the 2026-27 academic session. According to a notification issued on Friday, the university has received requests seeking an increase in seats in the one-year postgraduate courses being offered across various departments.
"The competent authority has constituted the following committee to consider the request and suggest measures for implementation of the same. The committee may submit its recommendations within ten days," the notification said.
The committee will be chaired by Dean (Academic Affairs), with Dean (Admissions), Dean (Social Work), the Head of the Department of Chemistry, Joint Registrar (Legal) and Deputy Registrar (Recruitment and Promotion) as members.
The move comes amid concerns over the limited intake in the newly introduced one-year postgraduate programmes under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.Earlier this week, Delhi University said 12,639 candidates had registered for admissions to its one-year postgraduate programmes.
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Friday held a demonstration outside the Arts Faculty, demanding an increase in seats in the one-year postgraduate courses.
