Over 60 held in four-day anti-crime drive in Rohini

More than 60 people were arrested in a four-day anti-crime drive in northwest Delhi’s Rohini area, as police carried out a large-scale operation targeting organised and street crime, officials said on Sunday.
The operation was conducted between March 18 and March 21. It involved 44 police teams that carried out coordinated raids across 79 locations. Police also checked 165 known offenders during the intensified enforcement exercise.
The drive focused on multiple categories of crime, including illegal arms, illicit liquor, gambling, and theft. Police said the action was part of a broader effort to curb criminal activities and increase surveillance in the district.
In the crackdown on illegal arms, police registered 10 cases under the Arms Act and arrested 11 people. During the operation, officers recovered one revolver, a .32 bore pistol, five country-made pistols, 12 live cartridges, four knives, and a scooter.
Action against illicit liquor led to 14 cases under the Excise Act. A total of 14 people were arrested in these cases. Police seized 48 bottles and 13,993 quarters of illegal liquor. They also recovered one car, a Tempo, and a scooter used in transportation. In cases related to gambling, police registered 11 FIRs and apprehended 34 individuals. An amount of Rs 30,380 was recovered as stake money during these operations.
Separate actions were also taken against street crime. Police arrested two alleged snatchers and recovered a stolen mobile phone and a scooty. In another case, an auto-lifter was apprehended with six high-end motorcycles, officials said.
Police said that four of the arrested individuals are history-sheeters. Several others have prior involvement in criminal activities, indicating repeat offences in the area. In addition to arrests, preventive action was taken against 768 individuals under various legal provisions. Police also booked 20 people for drinking in public places during the drive.
Officials said the operation aimed to create a deterrent effect and improve the sense of security among residents. Increased patrolling and targeted raids were conducted based on intelligence inputs and crime patterns.
The coordinated effort across multiple teams allowed police to cover a wide area within a short period. Raids were conducted simultaneously at identified hotspots and locations linked to known offenders. Police said such drives will continue in the coming days to maintain pressure on criminal networks and prevent unlawful activities.
The Rohini district has witnessed periodic enforcement drives in recent months, focusing on both organised crime and street-level offences. Officials said sustained action is necessary to keep crime under check.
Police added that monitoring of repeat offenders and surveillance of sensitive areas will be further strengthened as part of ongoing efforts. The Delhi police have said that further investigation is underway in all registered cases.
