Opium, poppy straw worth Rs 1 cr seized in Jharkhand, 1 arrested

One person has been arrested and opium and poppy straw worth a total of Rs 1 crore have been seized in Jharkhand's Chatra district, police told PTI on Saturday.
Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid on the house of the accused, Jalesh Kumar (22), in Tegam village under the jurisdiction of Kunda police station on Friday, they said.
"We seized 7.540 kg of opium and 293.9 kg of poppy straw during the raid. The market value of the seized narcotics is around Rs 1 crore," Chatra Superintendent of Police Animesh Naithany told reporters.
It has come to light that the seized contraband was brought from the Panki area in Palamu district. The police have launched an investigation to trace the supply chain network, the SP said.
An FIR has been lodged against the accused under the NDPS Act, and he has been sent to judicial custody, the officer said.
