Nuclear site in Iran targeted

Iran on Saturday confirmed a joint US-Israel strike on a critical nuclear facility approximately 220 kilometers southeast of Tehran. The incident occurred at the Shahid Ahmadi Roshan uranium enrichment site near Natanz, according to Iran’s Atomic Energy Organisation.
The organisation emphasised that there was no release of radioactive material and no immediate threat to nearby communities, according to an official statement carried by Iran’s Tasnim news agency. Satellite imagery, however, shows damage to one of the facility’s buildings.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed that Iran had informed it of the attack.
The UN nuclear watchdog reported no elevated radiation levels outside the facility and said it is monitoring the situation closely. IAEA Director-General Rafael Grossi reiterated the need for military restraint to prevent any nuclear accidents.
Russia condemned the strike, calling it a clear breach of international law, with Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova labeling the attack as “illegal and provocative.”
This attack follows previous strikes on Natanz during conflicts in 2025. Analysts warn that the site remains a high-priority target amid ongoing tensions in the region.
