NTPC, Africa50 to jointly develop power projects in Africa

Building upon the discussions held during the meeting chaired by the Minister of Power, Manohar Lal Khattar, towards strengthening India – Africa cooperation in the power sector, the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of NTPC, Gurdeep Singh, met Alain Ebobisse, Chief Executive Officer of Africa50, to explore avenues for deepening collaboration in Africa’s energy landscape.
According to a Press release, the discussions focused on opportunities for joint development of power projects across the African continent, encompassing coal, gas, solar, wind, and floating solar initiatives. Both sides also deliberated on potential cooperation in facilitating power trading across Africa. In addition, the possibility of entering into a comprehensive framework agreement covering a wide spectrum of collaboration in the power and energy sector of Africa was discussed.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the Bharat Electricity Summit (BES) 2026, being conducted from March 19 to 22, 2026, at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi, under the aegis of the Ministry of Power, Government of India.
The engagement reflects NTPC’s continued commitment to strengthening international partnerships and contributing to sustainable and diversified energy development across emerging markets.
