New EV policy will reinforce Delhi’s clean mobility lead: Ministers

Hailing the new EV policy, Transport Minister Dr Pankaj Singh and Power Minister Ashish Sood said it is expected to reinforce Delhi’s leadership in clean mobility, promote affordable electric transportation, reduce vehicular emissions, and create a sustainable transport ecosystem for the city and is pro-people.
Dr Pankaj Singh said “The implementation of the Delhi EV Policy 2026 will be led by the Transport Department as the nodal department. 

The Department undertook extensive consultations with stakeholders, vehicle manufacturers, industry representatives and experts before finalising the policy. Every constructive suggestion received during this consultative process has been carefully examined and incorporated wherever appropriate.” The Minister added that pollution reduction is the central objective of the policy.
“The benefits under the policy have been structured in a manner that encourages faster replacement of highly polluting vehicles with cleaner electric alternatives. Special emphasis has been laid on commercial vehicles and freight transport, which contribute significantly to vehicular emissions.

This policy has also been designed with future requirements in mind, so that Delhi can continue its transition towards sustainable mobility over the coming years. I am confident that this policy will play a transformative role in reducing pollution and improving the quality of life for every citizen of Delhi.”
Ashish Sood said “As the Chairman of the Group of Ministers, I am proud to share that this new EV policy is truly pro-people, progressive, and built for the future. 

We worked closely with leading experts, the International Solar Alliance, and research institutes like CPRG to design a framework that makes electric mobility practical for everyone. This policy is about giving Delhi a cleaner tomorrow and ensuring healthy living for every citizen.”

“The Delhi Cabinet has cleared an EV policy that delivers real, actionable solutions rather than empty promises. While the previous Government did very little with their 2020 framework, our Group of Ministers under the leadership of Chief Minister Smt Rekha Gupta has created a robust plan shaped by industry experts and key stakeholders. This policy will aggressively phase out polluting vehicles and replace them with green, clean alternatives to give Delhi the breathable air it deserves.
