NEET UG Re-Exam 2026 conducted amid tight security across India; over 22 lakh candidates appear

The NEET UG 2026 re-examination was conducted across India on June 21 under unprecedented security arrangements, with authorities ensuring a smooth and fair conduct of the medical entrance test following earlier paper leak concerns.
According to officials, over 22 lakh candidates appeared for the exam held between 2:00 PM and 5:15 PM at thousands of centres nationwide. The National Testing Agency (NTA) had put in place multi-layer security measures, including CCTV surveillance, biometric verification, and strict entry protocols to prevent any malpractice during the examination.
In several centres, particularly in northern states, heavy police deployment and restricted movement zones were enforced around exam venues. Candidates were allowed entry only after thorough identity checks, and exam materials were transported under armed escort.
Authorities stated that the arrangements were part of a broader effort to restore confidence in the examination system after allegations of irregularities in the original NEET UG 2026 exam. The retest was ordered following concerns of a question paper leak, prompting a nationwide review of security protocols.

Officials further confirmed that no major disruptions or leak-related incidents were reported during the re-exam, indicating that the strengthened security framework was effective.
The NTA is now expected to begin the evaluation process soon, with results likely to be announced after completion of answer sheet assessments.
