NDMC’s Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign reaches Mandir Marg: Kuljeet Singh Chahal

The “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” plantation campaign gathered fresh momentum on Sunday as NDMC Vice Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal led a tree-planting drive at Gandhi Sadan, NDMC Housing Complex, Mandir Marg. The event saw active participation from Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), residents, and NDMC officials. Saplings were planted during the programme, and participants pledged to care for and protect the trees. NDMC Member Anil Valmiki was also present at the event.
Addressing the gathering, Chahal said the initiative is inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to plant a tree in honour of one’s mother and nurture it with responsibility. He said the campaign is being implemented in mission mode to expand green cover across the NDMC area in a structured and time-bound manner. Chahal stressed that public participation is the backbone of the drive.
He said the campaign has been receiving strong support from RWAs, institutions, and market associations. “This movement is not limited to the plantation alone. It is about creating a sense of ownership and responsibility towards the environment,” he said.
According to NDMC officials, the drive is being conducted every Sunday under the banner Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam. Plantation activities are being carried out at identified and suitable locations after proper planning.
Chahal informed that the campaign has already been extended to embassies and diplomatic missions located within NDMC limits. It is also being carried out in universities, colleges, schools, and Market Traders Associations. The aim is to reach every corner of the NDMC area and ensure plantation wherever required.
He said the initiative aligns with the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat @2047’ and focuses on building a cleaner and greener urban environment. Expanding green cover, he added, is essential for improving air quality and enhancing the overall quality of life in the Capital.
The Vice Chairman appealed to citizens, institutions, and organisations to join the movement in large numbers. He urged residents to not only plant saplings but also ensure their survival through regular care and monitoring.
