NDMC vice-chairperson leads tree plantation drive in Laxmibai Nagar

The “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign gained fresh momentum in the capital on Sunday as NDMC Vice-Chairperson Kuljeet Singh Chahal led a tree plantation drive in Laxmibai Nagar, drawing active participation from local residents.
The plantation drive was held at Tikona Park in Laxmibai Nagar Market under the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam initiative on Sunday. The campaign, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aims to encourage citizens to plant trees in honour of their mothers while promoting environmental conservation. A large number of residents, including RWA President Rajesh Kumar Meena, joined the event and participated in planting saplings. Officials said the initiative is focused on increasing public involvement in environmental efforts across the city.
Speaking on the occasion, Chahal said the campaign is not limited to planting trees but carries a deeper social and emotional message. He said it encourages respect for nature and highlights the responsibility of citizens to contribute to a cleaner environment.
According to him, such public participation plays a key role in strengthening environmental awareness.
Chahal also announced that NDMC has prepared a year-long “Green Calendar” to sustain the campaign. Under this plan, tree plantation drives will be organised every Sunday in different parts of the NDMC area.
Chahal noted that NDMC’s initiatives are in line with the broader goal of building a cleaner and greener Capital. He added that efforts are being made to expand green cover while also encouraging citizens to take responsibility for environmental protection.
