NDMC marks Mother’s Day with plantation drive

New Delhi Municipal Council Vice Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal on Sunday launched a special plantation campaign at Ashirwad Old Age Home on Kali Bari Marg to mark Mother’s Day, linking environmental protection with care for senior citizens and family values.
The plantation drive was organised under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, which encourages people to plant trees in the name of their mothers. Senior citizens residing at the old age home participated in the programme along with NDMC officials and staff members by planting saplings inside the premises.
The event was aimed at spreading awareness about environmental conservation while promoting respect for motherhood and social responsibility. The campaign is inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for greater public participation in protecting the environment. Addressing the gathering, Chahal said the campaign was not just a tree plantation programme but a larger social movement connecting emotional values with environmental responsibility. He said planting trees today would help secure a cleaner and safer future for coming generations while also paying tribute to mothers and nature.
He said the initiative reflected the importance of combining civic participation with sustainable development. According to him, environmental awareness becomes more meaningful when linked with social and emotional values.
