NCC Aqua Adventure Regatta culminates in Meghalaya
The Aqua Adventure Regatta 2026, organised by the 12 Assam NCC Battalion, culminated successfully at the picturesque Umiam Lake in Meghalaya on Saturday. Run under the aegis of the NCC Group Jorhat and the NCC North Eastern Region Directorate Shillong, the event marked the end of an enriching and adventurous eight-day training camp conducted from May 9 to 16.
The camp witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 100 NCC cadets, including Senior Division (boys) and Senior Wing (girls) cadres drawn from various institutions across the region. Throughout the intensive eight-day capsule, the cadets underwent rigorous training and gained hands-on exposure to a diverse array of aqua adventure activities. These included professional training in sailing, boat pulling, watermanship, team-building exercises, and specialised adventure-based leadership drills.
According to a defence release, the primary objective of the regatta was to foster discipline, courage, camaraderie, leadership qualities, and self-confidence among the young cadres, while simultaneously promoting a robust spirit of adventure and national integration. The participating cadets displayed exceptional enthusiasm, determination, and exemplary teamwork throughout the duration of the camp.
The grand closing ceremony was marked by vibrant cultural performances, a prize distribution ceremony, and the felicitation of cadets who excelled in various adventure activities and competitions. Camp Commandant Lt Col Atong Konyak K presented certificates and awards to the deserving cadets in recognition of their outstanding performance, dedication, and sportsmanship.
As part of the culmination activities, the cadets were also taken for sightseeing visits to prominent tourist landmarks around Shillong, including the iconic Shillong Peak, allowing them to experience the natural beauty and rich cultural heritage of Meghalaya. Organisers stated that the successful conduct of the regatta reflects the steadfast commitment of the NCC towards holistic youth development through adventure, strict discipline, and character-building initiatives.
