Namo Bharat adds more peak-hour services on Delhi-Meerut route

The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has announced eight additional Namo Bharat train trips on the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor to handle rising passenger demand and improve travel convenience during peak hours.
The new services will begin on Friday and are aimed at reducing crowding on one of the country’s busiest regional transit corridors.
According to NCRTC, four extra trips will operate during the morning rush hours between 8 am and 11 am, while four more services will run during the evening peak period from 5 pm to 7 pm.
The additional trains will operate between Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi and Meerut South station. To support the expanded operations, two additional trains have also been introduced into the system. The move comes at a time when authorities are encouraging greater use of public transport and reduced dependence on private vehicles amid concerns linked to global energy uncertainties.
NCRTC said the initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen sustainable and efficient urban mobility in the NCR. The Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat corridor has witnessed a steady rise in commuter traffic in recent weeks. NCRTC said the corridor is currently recording an average daily ridership of nearly one lakh passengers.
Officials said the increasing number of commuters reflects growing public confidence in the service because of its speed, comfort, and reliability. Namo Bharat is India’s first regional rapid transit system developed to provide fast intercity connectivity across the NCR.
