MPs cycle to NMW for annual ‘Sunday ride’
Members of Parliament will cycle to the National War Memorial (NWM) on Sunday as part of the annual “Sunday Ride” that promotes sustainable mobility while paying tribute to fallen soldiers.
The ride will be held on November 30. MPs have been asked to assemble near the Entry Gate of Rail Bhawan at 8.05 am.
Organisers said the event carries a twin purpose: honouring soldiers and encouraging cycling as a clean and healthy mode of transport. Convenor Prashant Chapke said MPs who cannot cycle due to health reasons may join directly at the NWM. He said the effort aims to build public support for non-motorised transport and strengthen the case for better cycling infrastructure in Delhi.
Chapke said the initiative has grown in participation over the years and now attracts people from across the city. He urged policymakers to continue improving safe cycling routes, last-mile connectivity and dedicated tracks.
To ensure smooth movement on the day of the ride, organisers issued a public appeal. Chapke requested Delhi residents to minimise the use of personal vehicles after noon on Saturday, November 29.
He said the reduction in traffic will help lower pollution levels and ease arrangements for Sunday morning. For essential travel, he advised citizens to use public transport.
Participants have been asked to confirm their attendance by email for security and logistical planning. Organisers said the ride is meant to underline the link between public health, clean mobility and civic responsibility.
They added that wider participation will help reinforce the message behind the event.
