MP woman delivers quadruplets in auto-rickshaw, all 4 newborns dies due to Ambulance delay

A tragic incident in Madhya Pradesh’s Mandla district has raised concerns over emergency healthcare access after a woman delivered four premature babies inside an auto-rickshaw while being taken to hospital. All four newborns died shortly after birth, while the mother survived and is undergoing treatment.
The woman, identified as Rajni Singram from Naigaon village, went into labour during the seventh month of her pregnancy. Her family claimed they contacted the emergency ambulance service, but when help did not arrive on time, they were forced to arrange an auto-rickshaw to take her to a health facility.
According to officials, Rajni was initially taken to a health centre in Ghutas and later referred to the Community Health Centre in Bichhiya due to her critical condition. However, while being shifted, she delivered all four babies inside the vehicle before reaching the hospital.
Health officials said the newborns were premature and had not developed fully. The babies, weighing around 1.5 kg each, could not survive after birth. Doctors said Rajni’s condition is stable and she is receiving medical care.
The family alleged that the delay in ambulance availability contributed to the tragedy. Rajni’s husband said timely transportation could have improved the chances of saving the newborns. Authorities have said the matter will be examined if a formal complaint is received.
The incident has once again highlighted challenges related to emergency medical services and healthcare accessibility in rural areas.
