MP Khandelwal wants adbhavna Park renamed after Atal Bihari Vajpayee
Member of Parliament Praveen Khandelwal has written to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi proposing that Sadbhavna Park, located on Ring Road, be renamed as “Atal Sadbhavna Park” to commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji. He has also suggested to install a statute of Vajpayee in the said park.
Khandelwal said that Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji was one of India’s greatest statesmen, a visionary leader, an outstanding parliamentarian and a symbol of democratic values and national unity. His life and work were deeply rooted in the ideals of Sadbhavna (harmony), dialogue, inclusive development and good governance, ma-king the proposed renaming both symbolic and meaningful.
He stated that the centenary year of Atal ji’s birth is a historic moment for the nation to honour his unparalleled contribution to nation-building and to institutionalise his legacy for future generations. Renaming a prominent public space in the heart of the capital would serve as a permanent tribute to his ideals of peace, patriotism, integrity and inclusive progress, while inspiring citizens—especially the youth—to imbibe these values.
Khandelwal further suggested that Atal Sadbhavna Park could be developed as a memorial and awareness space, highlighting key milestones of Atal ji’s life, his role in strengthening India’s foreign policy, infrastructure development, economic reforms and his lifelong efforts to promote national harmony.
He expressed confidence that the proposal would receive positive and sympathetic consideration from the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, noting that such an initiative would enrich Delhi’s cultural and historical landscape and strengthen public connection with India’s democratic heritage.
