Modi-Trump to meet during G7 Summit: White House

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a bilateral meeting with US President Donald Trump in France next week on the sidelines of the G7 Summit, the White House has confirmed.
The announcement comes as Prime Minister Modi departed on Saturday for a week-long official visit to France and Slovakia. In his departure statement, PM Modi emphasised the strong and growing partnership with France.
“France occupies a special place in India’s strategic vision. Earlier this year, President Macron visited India, and we elevated our relationship to a Special Global Strategic Partnership,” PM Modi said.
The Prime Minister’s visit to France is expected to feature high-level engagements, including the much-anticipated meeting with President Trump. The White House confirmation underscores the importance both nations attach to the India-US strategic partnership amid evolving global challenges.
This will be the first meeting between Modi and Trump since the latter assumed office for his second term. Discussions are likely to cover defence and security cooperation, trade, technology, energy, and Indo-Pacific stability.
Modi’s week-long tour includes stops in France for the G7-related events and bilateral talks, followed by a visit to Slovakia. The itinerary reflects India’s focus on strengthening ties with key European partners.
The Ministry of External Affairs has described the visit as an opportunity to further deepen India’s strategic, economic, and cultural partnerships with both nations.
