Mehendi visit turns into theft, two arrested in Sultanpuri case

What began as a routine visit by a familiar face ended in betrayal, as a woman allegedly used a pretext of applying mehendi to gain access to a house in Sultanpuri and orchestrate a theft of cash and jewellery worth several lakhs.
Delhi Police have arrested two accused, including a woman believed to be known to the complainant, in connection with the case. A significant portion of the stolen property has been recovered.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Outer District, Vikram Singh, said the case was cracked through swift investigation and local intelligence. He said the team acted promptly after the complaint and managed to trace the accused within days. He added that further efforts are underway to recover the remaining stolen items and identify any other persons involved.
The case was registered on April 4 at Police Station Sultanpuri after the complainant reported a theft at her residence between 1 pm and 5 pm. According to the complaint, an unknown person entered the locked house and stole cash and jewellery. The total stolen amount included about Rs 3.2 lakh in cash, along with multiple gold items such as necklace sets, rings, a chain, and anklets.
Given the seriousness of the case, a police team was formed. The team began examining all possible leads. Investigators analysed CCTV footage from the area. One clip showed a man accompanied by a woman dressed in a burkha carrying a bag near the location. This became a key lead in the case. At the same time, the police developed local intelligence to track suspicious activity.
On April 7, the police received specific information that a man was trying to sell jewellery in the E Block area under suspicious circumstances. Acting on the tip-off, the police conducted a raid and apprehended a suspect identified as Rajinder, a 22-year-old resident of Sultanpuri.
During questioning, Rajinder admitted his role in the theft. He told police that he had acted under the guidance of his aunt, who is the female co-accused in the case. He also revealed that the stolen cash and jewellery had been hidden at his residence.
Based on his disclosure, the police recovered cash amounting to Rs 1,92,500 along with several jewellery items from his house.
