Mehbooba Mufti calls for United Political outreach to centre for dialogue on Jammu and Kashmir issues

PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday urged all major political parties in Jammu and Kashmir to come together for a united outreach to the Centre, seeking the resumption of constructive dialogue on issues concerning the region. She stressed that a collective effort was necessary to safeguard the constitutional rights and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
In a letter addressed to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and other political and civil society leaders, Mehbooba Mufti highlighted recent developments in Ladakh, noting that engagements between the Leh Apex Body, Kargil Democratic Alliance, and the Centre demonstrated that dialogue can lead to meaningful outcomes. She said similar efforts should be replicated for Jammu and Kashmir.
The former chief minister called for setting aside political differences and forming a broad consensus across party lines to break what she described as a continuing political and developmental stalemate in the region. She urged leaders to jointly approach Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to restart sustained dialogue.
Mehbooba Mufti also emphasised that the initiative must not be seen as political competition but as a collective responsibility towards the welfare of the people. She added that the Chief Minister’s leadership would be crucial in bringing all stakeholders together for an official meeting and initiating the outreach process.
She has written to several leaders across parties, including the Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Sunil Sharma, JKPCC President Tariq Hameed Karra, CPI(M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, and others, calling for unity on the issue.
