MCG to curb population of stray dogs
The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has announced a comprehensive Animal Birth Control (ABC) programme to curb the rising population of stray dogs and prevent the spread of rabies in the city. As part of this initiative, the civic body has approved a large-scale sterilisation and mass vaccination drive to be carried out over the next two years.
The programme, scheduled from November 29, 2025, to November 28, 2027, has been assigned to Maa Baglamukhi Sewa Samiti, Jabalpur. According to the official order, the agency will be paid Rs 700 per dog for sterilisation and Rs 250 per dog for mass vaccination/immunisation. The initiative aims to regulate the canine population through scientific and humane methods while ensuring timely anti-rabies vaccination for every stray dog. All activities under the programme will be conducted under the supervision and approval of the Chief Medical Officer, MCG. A clear mechanism for monitoring and reporting has also been put in place to ensure transparency and effective implementation.
Considering the increasing number of stray dogs and the potential threat of rabies in Gurugram, the initiative is being seen as a significant step toward ensuring citizen safety and strengthening public health systems.
The MCG said the campaign will help promote animal welfare, stabilise the stray dog population, and create a safer environment for residents. The corporation has also appealed to citizens to extend their cooperation for the successful execution of the drive.
In a separate action, the MCG on Friday sealed two significant properties as part of its ongoing drive to recover outstanding property tax dues. Both properties reportedly owe dues running into crores of rupees.
A team led by Zonal Taxation Officer B.S. Chhokkar sealed Pind Balluchi, located in Sector 29, over pending dues amounting to Rs 50,44,901. Similarly, MS Cycom, situated in Sector 16, was also sealed for non-payment of property tax amounting to Rs 75,46,116.
According to MCG officials, repeated notices were issued to the owners, but the dues remained unpaid. Following due procedure, the sealing action was carried out on-site, and the concerned parties were instructed to clear the outstanding amounts at the earliest.
The corporation said the move sends a clear message that strict action will continue against those failing to comply with property tax regulations.
