MCD extends property tax amnesty scheme till April 30

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has extended its property tax amnesty scheme, SUNIYO, till April 30, 2026, offering taxpayers another opportunity to clear pending dues without penalties or interest, Mayor Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh announced on Tuesday.
The extension comes in view of the positive response from citizens, officials said, with the civic body urging all eligible property owners to take advantage of the scheme before the final deadline.
“In light of the encouraging response from citizens, the property tax amnesty scheme has been extended till April 30, 2026. We appeal to all property owners to make full use of this opportunity,” the mayor said. He added that the scheme will not be extended further beyond this date.
Under the scheme, taxpayers can avail a complete waiver of property tax dues prior to the financial year 2020-21. However, this benefit is conditional upon payment of the principal tax amount for the current financial year 2025-26 and the previous five years, from 2020-21 to 2024-25, without any interest or penalty. Officials said the scheme is aimed at encouraging voluntary compliance and reducing the burden of accumulated dues on taxpayers.
The Mayor said citizens have been actively participating in the scheme and clearing their liabilities. He noted that the late fee has not been increased and remains at 5 per cent, the same rate that was applicable during the previous extension period from February 1 to March 31, 2026.
“We have kept the late fee unchanged to ensure that more people can benefit from the scheme and settle their dues,” he said.
The SUNIYO scheme is designed to provide relief to property owners who have pending tax liabilities, allowing them to regularise their records without facing additional financial penalties. Civic officials said the initiative is also expected to improve revenue collection for the municipal corporation while easing the financial burden on residents.
The MCD has urged defaulters and non-filers to take advantage of the scheme and clear all outstanding dues within the extended deadline.
Officials warned that strict action will be initiated against those who fail to comply after the scheme period ends. “After April 30, coercive measures will be taken against defaulters who do not clear their dues,” an official said.
The civic body said the extension provides a final opportunity for taxpayers to resolve pending issues without legal or financial consequences.
The scheme applies to all eligible property taxpayers across Delhi and covers a significant backlog of unpaid taxes. Officials said efforts are being made to raise awareness about the scheme to ensure maximum participation.
