Massive Naphtha Pipeline fire at Haldia Petrochemicals leaves 20 injured

More than 20 people sustained burn injuries after a massive fire broke out in a naphtha-carrying pipeline at the Haldia Petrochemicals plant in West Bengal's Purba Medinipur district. The blaze triggered panic across the industrial complex, sending thick plumes of black smoke into the sky.
The fire erupted in a pipeline transporting naphtha, a highly flammable petroleum product, within the Haldia Petrochemicals facility. Emergency response teams and multiple fire engines rushed to the site and launched firefighting and rescue operations. Authorities later brought the blaze under control, though cooling operations continued for several hours.
Several workers suffered severe burn injuries and were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. Officials confirmed that three workers lost their lives, while dozens of others remain under medical care. Some of the injured are reported to be in critical condition.

The incident also affected transport services in the region, with train operations between Haldia and Howrah temporarily disrupted as a precautionary measure. Authorities cordoned off the affected area while emergency personnel ensured there was no further risk of explosion.
The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined. Haldia Petrochemicals and state authorities have initiated an investigation to ascertain what triggered the blaze and assess the extent of the damage. Safety audits are also expected to be conducted following the incident.
