Thrissur python meat case: Three arrested for allegedly catching, cooking and eating snake

Three men were arrested by forest officials in Kerala’s Thrissur district for allegedly catching, cooking and consuming a python, officials said on Saturday.

The accused have been identified as Jinson Jose, 36, Jishnu, 30, and Vivek, 30, all residents of Cherukunnu near Mannamangalam.

According to forest officials, the python was spotted near the men’s house on Friday night. The three, along with some of their friends, allegedly caught the snake, cut it into pieces, cooked the meat and consumed it.

Acting on information received about the incident, a forest team led by Mannamangalam Forest Station Deputy Range Forest Officer M Shahjahan arrested the three on Saturday.

The accused were subsequently produced before a court, which remanded them to judicial custody. A report published on September 26 also confirmed the arrests and the forest officials’ account of the incident.
