Mandaviya reviews India’s CWG 2026 preparations

Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya chaired a high-level review meeting to assess India’s preparations for the 2026 Commonwealth Games (CWG) scheduled to be held in Glasgow, Scotland.
The meeting focused on strengthening coordination among stakeholders and enhancing support systems for Indian athletes preparing for the international sporting event.
Senior officials from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, representatives of the Indian Olympic Association, including the Chef de Mission for CWG 2026, and officials from the Sports Authority of India participated in the discussions.
Key aspects such as operational planning, athlete training, logistics, welfare measures and coordination mechanisms were reviewed during the meeting. Mandaviya reiterated the Government’s commitment to providing all possible support to Indian athletes to ensure strong performances at the Games.
Discussions also covered preparations for the closing ceremony of the 2026 Commonwealth Games, during which India is expected to officially receive the baton for hosting the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
Representatives from the Gujarat Government, including Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, also took part in the review meeting and discussed arrangements related to the proposed 2030 Games.
Officials further reviewed inter-ministerial coordination efforts concerning operational and logistical planning for Glasgow 2026. Authorities shared updates on training schedules, deployment of support staff, athlete engagement programmes and contingency planning for the Indian contingent.
The meeting concluded with stakeholders reaffirming their collective commitment towards ensuring comprehensive preparations for India’s campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games and Gujarat’s readiness to host the 2030 edition.
