Loco pilot stopped train for samosas? Railways clarifies viral video claim

A viral video claiming that a loco pilot stopped a train to buy samosas has sparked debate on social media, prompting a clarification from the Indian Railways. The video showed a railway staff member stepping down from a halted train near a roadside food stall and purchasing snacks, leading to claims that the Indore-Mhow DEMU passenger train was stopped for a personal reason.
However, the Railways has rejected the claim, stating that the video was misleading and did not show a passenger train being halted for buying food. According to the official clarification, the train seen in the video was a goods train that had already stopped at the Rau Home Signal due to engineering work being carried out in the Rau yard near Indore.
The Railways said the person seen in the video was an Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) who stepped out during the authorised halt and purchased samosas and kachoris. Officials clarified that the train was not stopped for refreshments and that the viral clip created a false impression by linking the stoppage to a food purchase.
The video had earlier triggered criticism online, with several users questioning whether railway staff had delayed passenger services for personal reasons. After the video gained traction, railway authorities examined the matter and issued details about the actual circumstances behind the stoppage.
The Railways has urged people to verify facts before sharing videos on social media, as incomplete information can create misleading narratives about railway operations and employees.
