LG Sandhu visits Connaught Place, engages with public on civic issues

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu made an unannounced visit to Connaught Place on Sunday, interacting directly with citizens and gathering feedback on civic issues.
The visit, described as impromptu, is part of a series of informal public engagements by the LG aimed at understanding ground realities and promoting people-centric governance.
Sandhu began his visit at a popular outlet, Keventers, where he bought a milkshake and interacted with people present there. While engaging with visitors, he informally assessed the condition of sanitation and traffic in the Connaught Place area.
Officials said the LG spoke to people from different parts of Delhi, including professionals and young residents, who shared their experiences related to commuting, cleanliness and public infrastructure in the city.
From there, Sandhu walked to the well-known Jain Chawal Wale eatery. He stood in line like a regular customer, purchased a plate of kadhi chawal and ate among the crowd. The gesture drew attention from visitors and passersby, many of whom interacted with him during the visit.
During his interactions, the LG emphasised the importance of public participation in governance. He asked people to share solutions to civic problems and said that governance must be driven by the needs and inputs of citizens. “Experience has taught me that governance has to be people-centric. Solutions to people’s issues should come from the people themselves,” he said during the visit.
He also underlined the need for a “bottom-up” approach, where policies and decisions are shaped by feedback from the ground, rather than being imposed from the top.
Officials noted that this was not the first such visit by the LG. Similar interactive outings have been conducted earlier in areas such as Model Town, Vasant Vihar, Chittaranjan Park and near the Red Fort.
