LG Sandhu interacts with DC, MI players

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Friday visited the Arun Jaitley Stadium and interacted with players from the Delhi Capitals (DC) and the Mumbai Indians (MI) ahead of their Indian Premier League (IPL) match scheduled for Saturday.
During the visit, the Lieutenant Governor met Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel and other members of the team, extending his best wishes for their upcoming home match. The encounter will be the team’s second game of the season at their home ground. He also interacted with Mumbai Indians players Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav. The visit came on the eve of what is expected to be a high-profile clash between the two teams in the national capital.
In a post on social media platform X, the Lieutenant Governor said he wished both teams a spirited and sportsmanlike performance. He noted that it was encouraging to see players of international stature participating in the league.
“It is always encouraging to see such world-class talent and experience representing the very best of Indian cricket,” he said.
Highlighting the broader role of sports, the Lieutenant Governor said that cricket and events like the IPL serve as a unifying force. He added that sports foster a shared sense of national pride and bring people together beyond competition. “Beyond the competition, sports remain a powerful medium to foster unity and a shared sense of national pride. May the match be a celebration of true sportsmanship and a thrilling experience for all fans in the National Capital,” he said.
Apart from meeting players, the Lieutenant Governor also took time to acknowledge the contribution of ground staff at the stadium. He interacted with the staff responsible for preparing the pitch and maintaining the venue.
He described their role as crucial to the success of any sporting event and said their efforts often go unnoticed despite being essential. “Their tireless efforts and meticulous preparation behind the scenes are the true backbone of every successful sporting event,” he said.
He added that the quality of the playing field and overall match experience depend heavily on the dedication of the ground staff. “It is their hard work that ensures a world-class field is ready for our players to excel,” he said.
