LG, CM Rekha inaugurate 6-level car parking at Nehru Place

In a major boost to Delhi’s urban infrastructure and traffic decongestion efforts, Delhi Lt Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, along with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, on Monday inaugurated a state-of-the-art Multi-Level Car Parking (MLCP) facility at Nehru Place District Centre.
South Delhi MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, Vice Chairman of DDA N Saravana Kumar and other senior officials of the DDA were also present on the occasion. Guided by the vision of the Lt Governor, the initiative represents a significant milestone in the ongoing upgradation and revitalisation of Nehru Place. Speaking on the occasion, Saxena stated that “handing over this Automated Multilevel Car Parking Complex at Nehru Place is a matter of great satisfaction.”
Speaking on the occasion, CM Rekha Gupta said, “Today is an important day for Delhi. The grand Multi-Level Car Parking at Nehru Place District Centre addresses one of the city’s biggest challenges — parking. I truly commend the Lt Governor and the DDA for their dedicated efforts in making this possible in such a short time.”
“Developed by DDA as part of the Nehru Place District Centre redevelopment plan, this facility reflects our commitment to organised, accessible and sustainable urban infrastructure. I would like to reiterate that our policy is one of zero tolerance towards unauthorised parking,” he said.
He added, “I urge citizens to actively use this modern facility and support our collective vision of a greener and smarter Delhi.”
The multi-level car parking facility has been developed as a six-level structure comprising a basement and five upper floors. With a capacity to provide organised parking for 660 cars, including designated spaces for persons with disabilities and electric vehicles, it can also facilitate parking for over 350 two-wheelers.
Providing details of the multi-level parking facility, the chief minister informed that the new six-storey modern structure has the capacity to accommodate 650 four-wheelers and 352 two-wheelers at a time. On a rotation basis, it is expected to facilitate parking for approximately 2,000 vehicles daily. She described it as a significant step in view of Delhi’s growing needs. She added that a comprehensive plan is being prepared to develop parks or parking facilities on available DDA land in areas facing acute parking shortages.
This MLCP facility incorporates modern construction practices and advanced materials to ensure durability and safety. Lightweight Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) blocks have been used in place of conventional bricks, enhancing earthquake resistance, while shear walls provide additional structural stability.
It also features Vacuum Dewatered Concrete (VDC) technology, first introduced in Sweden, which enhances surface durability and minimises cracking, making it well-suited for high-volume vehicular movement with reduced maintenance requirements. The design is spacious and simple so that it can minimise disruption in parking management and manoeuvring operations.
The MLCP integrates intelligent parking management and guidance systems, including automated ticketing and digital floor displays that enable users to locate vacant parking spaces without unnecessary circulation.
The facility is secured through comprehensive surveillance with 148 CCTV cameras and equipped with advanced fire-fighting systems and disabled-friendly access provisions. It also provides 9 Electric Vehicle charging points, supported by dedicated power infrastructure.
Designed as a modern and sustainable urban facility, the building incorporates mechanical ventilation with air-quality monitoring, energy-efficient lighting, and a façade featuring GRC jali work that allows ample natural daylight, reducing power consumption.
