LG backs Project SANGAM to fix Delhi traffic woes

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Monday said the Delhi Traffic Police has launched Project SANGAM, a new initiative aimed at improving traffic management through community participation and coordinated governance.
The project, described as Synergistic Action and Networked Governance for Area Mobility, focuses on resolving local traffic issues by bringing residents and civic agencies onto a common platform. The Lieutenant Governor said the initiative follows his recent review and guidance to strengthen traffic systems in the Capital.
In a statement, he said the project is rooted in collaborative governance and aims to deliver citizen-centric, ground-level solutions. It seeks to involve Resident Welfare Associations, Market Welfare Associations and civic bodies such as the Public Works Department and Municipal Corporation in decision-making and problem-solving.
Officials said the initiative enables real-time resolution of issues such as unauthorised parking, congestion and pedestrian safety. So far, 30 meetings have been held across key areas, including Connaught Place, Saket and Karol Bagh, with participation of more than 6,000 residents.
The Lieutenant Governor said the approach ensures that all stakeholders work together to make Delhi’s roads smoother, safer and more organised. He added that active public participation is central to the success of the project. The development comes days after Sandhu visited the Traffic Headquarters at Todapur on April 2, where he reviewed the functioning of the Delhi Traffic Police and emphasised the need for modernisation and better coordination.
During the visit, he was welcomed by Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golchha and Special Commissioner of Police for Traffic Management Neeraj Thakur, along with other senior officers.
