LG approves allotment of DJB land to DMRC
Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena has approved the allotment of Delhi Jal Board (DJB) land to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for the Rithala–Bawana–Narela–Kundli corridor under Metro Phase IV, facilitating the construction of a crucial viaduct from Rithala to Rohini Sector 25. The project had been pending for years due to inaction on the part of the previous AAP Government.
“The decision will not only expedite the much-awaited Metro line but also give a major boost to plans for developing Narela as an education hub, a prime residential location, and a sports hub, among other amenities,” Raj Niwas officials said.
Following Saxena’s approval, DJB will allot 50 sqm of land located at STP, Rithala, to DMRC on a permanent basis (99-year lease) and an additional 1,286 sqm on a temporary basis for four years for the construction of the viaduct, an official from Raj Niwas said.
As per the terms and conditions, DMRC will pay DJB a total of Rs 75,50,353, including Rs 12,28,937 for the 50 sqm allotted on a permanent basis and Rs 63,21,416 for the 1,286 sqm provided temporarily for four years. DMRC will use the land strictly for the specified purpose and not for any other activities.
The Rithala–Kundli Metro corridor under Phase IV is expected to significantly improve Delhi–Haryana connectivity, decongest traffic, and reduce pollution in northwest Delhi areas such as Rohini, Bawana, and Narela.
The route, which includes 21 elevated stations, will enhance access to industrial and residential zones, support economic growth, and integrate with the Red Line for seamless NCR travel. It is seen as a key link extending the Metro network into Haryana and improving public transport for lakhs of residents in previously underserved border areas.
