KP Trust revokes venue for Rahul Gandhi's Prayagraj student event

The Kayastha Pathshala (KP) Trust has revoked permission for Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's 'Chhatron Ki Goonj' programme scheduled at KP Ground on Aug. 8, citing an Allahabad High Court order and waterlogging at the venue.
The trust's acting president, Jitendra Nath Chaudhary, said the Allahabad High Court, in an order dated Aug. 14, 2025, directed that the KP College ground should be used only for sports and educational activities. He added that recent rainfall had left the ground waterlogged and unsafe for a public gathering.
Chaudhary also said the permission granted to the Congress was subject to approval from the district magistrate.
Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, was scheduled to interact with students on alleged examination paper leaks and other issues affecting them.
Despite the cancellation, Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Rai said Gandhi would visit Prayagraj on Aug. 8 as planned and urged the state government and district administration to provide an alternative venue.
Rai alleged that the BJP government was attempting to block the programme for political reasons and claimed Gandhi's earlier events in Kota and Dehradun had also been cancelled.
