Kanwar Yatra: Pickup vehicle damaged after alleged contact with Kanwar in Muzaffarnagar

A pickup vehicle was damaged after a group of Kanwar pilgrims allegedly vandalised it following an incident in which the vehicle reportedly came into contact with a kanwar during the annual Kanwar Yatra in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district. The incident took place near Khadar Chowk in Purkazi on the Delhi–Haridwar National Highway on Wednesday night.
According to police, the pilgrims were returning from Haridwar carrying holy water when the vehicle allegedly brushed against one of the kanwars. This led to an argument, after which some members of the group allegedly damaged the pickup truck.
Police personnel reached the spot soon after receiving information and brought the situation under control. The pilgrims later resumed their journey. Authorities have seized the pickup vehicle and launched an investigation into the incident.
Police said efforts are underway to identify all those involved, and legal action will be taken based on the findings. The incident comes as Uttar Pradesh has deployed extensive security arrangements to ensure the smooth and peaceful conduct of the Kanwar Yatra across the state.
