Justice SA Dharmadhikari sworn in as Madras HC Chief Justice

Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari was sworn in as Chief Justice of the Madras High Court on Friday. In a simple ceremony held at the Lok Bhavan, Governor RN Ravi administered the oath of office to Justice Dharmadhikari.
He will be the 55th chief justice of the High Court. He was the Judge of the Kerala HC before his appointment to the Madras HC.
Chief Secretary N Muruganandam read out the Warrant of Appointment, which was handed over to the chief justice-designate before he was administered the oath of office.
Justice Dharmadhikari was appointed an additional judge of Madhya Pradesh HC on 07 April 2016 and as a permanent judge on 17 March 2018. Born on 8 July 1966 at Raipur, he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in commerce and law from Nagpur University.
He enrolled as an advocate in the HC of Madhya Pradesh at Jabalpur in 1992, and he was the standing counsel for the Union Government from 2000 to 2015.
Justice Dharmadhikari’s predecessor, Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava, demitted office on March 5, 2026, having attained the age of 62. He had been the chief justice since July 21, 2025.
Marking the commencement of the brief event, the national song was sung first, and it was followed by the national and Tamil anthems.
Tamil Nadu Natural Resources Minister S Regupathy and top officials took part in the function.
