Jharkhand SIR: claims and objections deadline ends on September 30, says CEO
Ranchi: The deadline for filing claims and objections against the deletion of names from Jharkhand's electoral rolls under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) ends on September 30. Chief Electoral Officer K Ravi Kumar said on Tuesday that his office has asked the Election Commission to extend the period for issuing notices and conducting verification.
Mr Kumar said the commission had already extended the deadline twice for the convenience of voters and there was no consideration of a further extension. "The focus will now be on the physical forms received and their digitisation," he said.
The deadline for Form-6, Form-7 and Form-8 applications also ends on September 30. Claims and objections could initially be filed from August 5 to September 4, and the final roll was to be published on October 7.
The date was extended to September 15 and then to September 30. Publication of the revised roll has been deferred to October 19.
Around 6.32 lakh applications under Form-6 have been received till Monday, along with 11,732 objections under Form-7 and 4.27 lakh applications under Form-8.
The CEO met representatives of recognised political parties on Thursday. Booth-wise data on "no-mapping" and discrepancies at polling stations was shared with them, and he asked the parties to help identify eligible voters.
Draft rolls were published in Jharkhand on August 5 after 43.61 lakh names were deleted. The state had 2.64 crore electors before the exercise began. The draft roll now has 2.21 crore voters, including 1.12 crore men, 1.08 crore women and 260 third-gender voters.
