Israel captures historic Beaufort Castle amid escalating Lebanon conflict

Israeli forces have captured the strategic Beaufort Castle in southern Lebanon, marking their deepest military advance into the country in more than 26 years.

The historic fortress, located on a mountain overlooking southern Lebanon and northern Israel, was seized after intense clashes between Israeli troops and Hezbollah fighters in the region.

The operation comes despite a ceasefire that began in April, with both Israel and Hezbollah repeatedly accusing each other of violating the truce.

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam condemned the attacks, calling them a form of collective punishment and warning that continued violence is forcing civilians from their homes.

Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts continue as the United States pushes for a broader agreement involving Iran, regional security, and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil shipping route. However, major disagreements remain over Iran’s nuclear program, sanctions relief, and maritime control, keeping tensions high across the Middle East.
