Iran announces new authority to manage Strait Of Hormuz

Iran’s top security body has announced the formation of a new authority to manage operations in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, amid escalating tensions in the West Asia region.
The newly created body, named the Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA), will oversee maritime movement and provide real-time updates on activities in the Strait, according to a post shared on Iran’s Supreme National Security Council’s official social media account.
The announcement comes at a time of heightened regional instability, with Iran, Israel, and other regional powers engaged in ongoing military and diplomatic tensions.
Iran has indicated that the new framework will regulate passage through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil shipping routes, raising concerns over potential disruptions to global energy supply chains.
In parallel developments, reports from the region suggest continued cross-border military activity involving Israel, Hezbollah, and Iranian-linked groups, further intensifying fears of broader escalation in the conflict zone.
Officials have not provided detailed operational guidelines for the new authority, but state-linked accounts suggest it will play a central role in monitoring and controlling maritime traffic through the Strait.
The move is being closely watched by global markets and energy-importing nations due to the Strait’s strategic importance for international trade and oil transportation.
