Interstate drug supplier held

The Northeast District Narcotics Squad of Delhi Police arrested an interstate drug supplier and recovered 21.7 kg of ganja during a patrolling operation near the Uttar Pradesh border in the Nand Nagri area on Monday afternoon.
The arrest was made around 3.45 pm when a police team spotted a man standing with two black bags on a road leading from Bhopra towards Nand Nagri, behind an MCD school. The suspect appeared nervous on seeing the police and failed to give a clear explanation about the contents of the bags, prompting a search.
“A large quantity of ganja was recovered from the two bags after following due legal procedure,” said Ashish Mishra, Deputy Commissioner of Police, North-East District. He said the seizure was part of sustained efforts to curb interstate drug trafficking networks operating along the Delhi-UP border.
According to police, the patrolling team noticed the suspect loitering with the bags in suspicious circumstances during routine surveillance in the border area. When the officials questioned him, the man allegedly tried to mislead the team and gave evasive replies.
The police informed senior officers and conducted a detailed search in the presence of the area ACP. The two bags were found to contain ganja weighing a total of 21.700 kilograms. The contraband was seized on the spot and sealed as per the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
A case was registered at Nand Nagri police station under Section 20 of the NDPS Act, and further investigation was initiated to trace the supply chain and intended recipients of the drugs. During the investigation, the accused was identified as Irfan, 49, a resident of Dasna in the Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh.
