INS Airavat Arrives in Colombo, Strengthens India–Sri Lanka Naval Cooperation

Indian Naval Ship (INS) Airavat was accorded a traditional welcome upon its arrival at the port of Colombo, the Sri Lankan Navy confirmed on Thursday.
The ship carried critical spare parts for the Sri Lanka Coast Guard vessel Suraksha, which were provided by the Indian Coast Guard under a Government of India grant. The assistance highlights ongoing defence and maritime cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.
Officials said visits by Indian Navy vessels to Sri Lanka are aimed at strengthening naval ties and enhancing regional maritime security cooperation, in line with India’s “Neighbourhood First” policy and the MAHASAGAR vision, which focuses on maritime collaboration across the Indian Ocean Region.

INS Airavat, a Landing Ship Tank, was on an operational turnaround and had arrived in Colombo earlier for refuelling and replenishment. During the visit, the ship’s commanding officer also held professional and sports interactions with personnel of the Sri Lanka Navy.
The visit further reinforces India’s maritime outreach and long-standing defence partnership with Sri Lanka.
