Indian Cricketer Shashank Singh denies assault allegations after FIR
Punjab Kings cricketer Shashank Singh has denied allegations of assault, abuse and wrongful confinement after an FIR was registered against him, his father Shailesh Singh, and their family driver based on a complaint filed by a domestic cook in Bhopal. Police said the investigation is underway and further action will be taken based on the evidence collected.
Responding to the allegations, Shashank said the claims were "completely baseless" and denied that the complainant had been held against his will or assaulted.
"We didn't hold him hostage," Shashank said, adding that the man had joined the household claiming to be a cook but allegedly did not know how to cook. He also alleged that the complainant was taking videos and photographs inside the house, including private areas, raising suspicions about his intentions.
The cricketer further claimed that the complainant's mobile phone contained photographs and videos of the family's residence, which his mother asked him to delete due to privacy concerns. Shashank said the family had considered informing the police but eventually allowed the man to leave after he pleaded with them. He maintained that neither he nor his family used abusive language or physical violence.
"I hesitate even to use abusive language. Beating someone is out of the question," Shashank said.
The FIR was lodged at Ratibad Police Station after the complainant alleged that he was assaulted, verbally abused and had his mobile phone forcibly taken away after expressing his intention to quit the job. Police have registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Bhopal police said they are recording statements, collecting evidence and awaiting the medical examination report of the complainant as part of the ongoing investigation. No arrests have been made so far. Authorities said the matter remains under investigation and appropriate legal action will be taken based on the findings.
